Чірська (Псковська) Ікона Божої Матері, 1420

Чи дійсно дбає Юог про терпіння людей? Часом буває, що люди сумніваються в цьому особливо коли приходить якесь нещастя, яке заторкує багато осіб. Православна Церква знає, як різними способами Господь показує Своїм людям, що Він з ними в їхньому терпінню. Він їх спасає Своїм милосердям та щедрістю. Часами це супроводжується уздоровленням від недуги. Це Сам Бог створив цей світ і нас людей, які складаємось із тіла як і з душі, щоб жили в ньому.

Коли Він невідмінно став Єдиним зі Своїм творінням через втілення Другої Особи Пресвятої Тройці, як Ісус з Лазарету, Він не тільки вчив і проповідував але також уздоровлював, годував та воскрешав померлих. Ніде не бувало навпаки. Тобто ніколи не робив Він здорових людей хворими а живих мертвими. Він не був байдужим і до голоду Своїх людей а чудесно годував їх помноженням хліба та риби та вказав де вловити велику кількість риби там, де перед тим наче не було жодної.

Ще один спосіб, яким виявляє Господь Свою милість до Своїх людей це почерез чудотворні Ікони. Сьогодні ми святкуємо одну таку Ікону: Чірську Ікону Божої Матері. Ця Ікона спочатку була в Церкві в селі Чірське, в Єпархії Пскова, в околиці звідки походила Св. Рівноапостольна Ольга, якої пам’ять ми святкували на цьому тижні.

У р. 1420-му підчас чуми, яка шаліла в околиці почали текти сльози з обох очей Чірської Ікони Божої Матері. Таким чином Пречиста наша Мати Марія виявляла співчутливість Бога до Свого народу в його терпіннях.

Коли почув про це Князь Федір Александрович Псковський, то він попросив Архієпископа Псковського та Новгородського, щоб той послав Духовенство перенести чудотворну Ікону до Пскова. Відбувся Хресний хід, в якому прийняло участь дуже багато народу включно з самим Князем. Народ Божий Пскова й околиць торжественно внесли Ікону в місто і поставили її в Кафедральному Соборі Пресвятої Тройці. І встановили день 16-го липня (це відповідає сьогодні 29-му липня за григоріанським календарем) як День Празника Ікони, як вдячність за припинення чуми, що так і наступила з появою чудесних сліз як також за іншц чуда, що відбувалися по через Ікону.

Після її перенесення до Пскова стали називати Ікону Чірську Псковською. У р. 1470-му Побудували Церкву Знам’я Богородиці в Старо-Знаменному жіночому монастирі, на пам’ять перенесення Ікони до Пскова.

Ікона має дві сторони. З другої сторони написані образи Св. Апостола й Євангелиста Луки, якого Св. Письмо називає «Улюбленим Лікарем», як також Преподобного Феодосія Києво-Печерського.

Нехай завжди радіємо ми і бадьоримось упевненням про те, що нас завжди любить і нами піклується Всемилостивий Господь і Милосердна наша Мати. Амінь.

The Chirsk (Pskov) Icon of the Mother of God, 1420.

Does God care if His children are suffering? Sometimes people doubt this especially at times of some great tragedy that befalls a great many people. The experience of the Orthodox Church is that in many ways God shows His people that He is with them in their experience of suffering. He saves them by His compassion, His kindness, His mercy and His generosity. Sometimes this is accompanied by healing of physical infirmities. It is God Who has created this world and us to live in it as beings composed of bodies as well as souls and spirits.

When He decisively became One with His creation through the incarnation of the Second Person of the Trinity as Jesus of Nazareth, He not only preached and taught but also healed, fed and raised the bodies of the dead to life. Nowhere was the contrary done: He did not make well people ill nor living people dead. He did not ignore the hunger of His people but even fed them miraculously by multiplying bread and fish and guiding them to catch a miraculous quantity of fish where before there appeared to be none.

Another way in which the Lord has shown His compassion and providence for His people is through miracle-working Icons. Today we celebrate one such: the Chirsk Icon of the Mother of God. Originally this Icon was in a church in the village of Chirsk, in the Diocese of Pskov, in the district from which hailed St. Ol’ha, the Equal-to-the-Apostles, whose memory we have celebrated this week.

In 1420, with an epidemic raging in Pskov, tears began to flow from both eyes of the Chirsk Icon of the Mother of God. In this way our Mother Mary showed the compassion which God has for His suffering people.

When he heard of this miraculous event, the Kniaz’ Fedir Aleksandrovych of Pskov asked the Archbishop of Pskov and Novgorod, Vladyka Symeon, to send clergy to bring the Miraculous Icon to Pskov. There was a procession of the Cross, in which many people, including the Kniaz’ himself took part. The people of God of Pskov solemnly carried the Icon into the city and placed it in the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity. July 16th (corresponds to July 29th on the Gregorian Calendar) was instituted as the Icon’s Feast Day, for with this procession the epidemic ceased, and many other miracles which were shown forth through the Icon.

After its transfer to Pskov, the Chirsk Icon came to be known as the Pskov Icon. In 1470, the Church of the Sign was erected at the Staro-Znamenskiy [Ancient Sign] Women’s Monastery, in commemoration of the Icon’s translation to Pskov.

The Icon has two sides to it. On the reverse of the icon are depicted the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, called “The Beloved Physician” in the Bible, as well as St Theodosius of the Kyiv Caves.

May we ever rejoice and find courage in the certain knowledge that we are always loved and provided for by our Merciful Lord and our compassionate Mother. Amen.
