Світле Христове Воскресення. Пасха Господня. Великдень.
«Це День, що Його створив Господь! Радуймося і веселімось у цей День!»
Що таке в цьому Дні, що робить його таким особливим для мільйонів людей по всьому світі? Чому люди далі промовляють «Христос воскрес!» і відповідають «Воістину воскрес!» з таким упевненням та радістю майже 2000 літ після цієї події?
Дехто скаже, що це просто традиція, яку хочуть заховувати. Ця відповідь не погана. Традиція допомагає людині знаходити значіння і порядок у життя. Люди, які мають такий ґрунт під собою не раз могли перенести та навіть переможно прожити серед найважчих обставин. Вони навіть зустрічали смерть з відвагою та спокоєм бо ж були переконані в тому, що їхнє життя і їхні стосунки зі своїм окруженням мають і дочасне і вічне значіння.
Та є й темна сторінка традиції. Є навіть традиції, яких було б краще позбутися. Та навіть добрі і благородні традиції часом носять зі собою небажані наслідки в тому, що будують мури та відчужують одне від одного людей різних та відмінних традицій.
Та справжнє відзначення Пасхи Господньої (слово «Пасха» походить від гебрайського «Песах», що означає «перехід») допомагає нам усвідомити, що Його перехід від смерті до життя, як «перший з поміж тих, що заснули» (І Коринтян 15:20) – це вирішальна перемога над ворожнечею то відчуженням.
Що ж бо остаточна зброя тих, які поширюють ворожнечу та тиранію? Чи це не погроза смертю? А що це таке, що наче б то приносить остаточне розлучення та відчуження навіть між людьми, які люблять одне одного? Чи це не смерть?
А хто той ворог, що його переміг Христос тим, що прийняв та обняв його на Хресті Своїм останнім подихом? Чи це не смерть? І чи ця перемога не виявляється Його славним та потрясаюче несподіваним – навіть для Його родини та учнів – воскресенням та пробуванням між ними, не тільки як невидимий Гість, але як конкретна історична Людина?
Отож що ж таке особливе в цьому дні? Це те почуття надії та радості та такої перемоги яка остаточно перетворює кожного, що програв на переможця. Це те упевнення, що все остаточно вийде на добре на кінці – та що насправді немає жодного кінця а кожний кінець – це початок чогось нового. Що життя завжди тільки починається для кожного з нас – бо ж Гріб порожній!
Оце остаточний дар Господа Ісуса усім Його братам і сестрам, людям всіх часів і всіх околиць: Світло, що сяє з порожнього Гробу. Через те, що живе Він – живемо й ми!
Отож ж, дорогі брати й сестри, живімо, як люди життя, надії, любові та радості. А як же бути такими? Разом з Тим, що постійно перебуває між нами, та разом одне з одним знайдемо правильний шлях до цього день за днем, хвилина за хвилиною. Христос воскрес! Він воістину воскрес!

The Lord’s Pascha. The Radiant Resurrection of Christ.
"This is the Day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!”
What is it about this day that makes it so very special to millions of people around the globe? Why do people keep saying: “Christ is risen!” and responding “He is risen indeed!” with such conviction and joy almost two thousand years after this event?
Some will answer that it is their tradition to do so. This answer is not a bad one. Tradition helps us find meaning and order in life and when one is fortified by such a sense of meaning, it has been possible to survive (and even thrive) in the most trying of circumstances. Even death has been faced with courage and serenity by those so grounded in a sense of the significance – immediate and transcendent – of their lives and relationships.
There is, however, a dark side to tradition. Not only are there traditions that were best left behind, but even good and benevolent traditions can sometimes have the result of shutting out and alienating from each other people whose traditions differ from each other.
An authentic celebration of the Lord’s Pascha (the word comes from the Hebrew “Pesach” which means “Passover”) helps us realize that His passing over from death to life, as the first of “those who have fallen asleep” (I Corinthians 15:20), is a crucial and decisive victory against hostility and alienation.
What is the ultimate weapon brandished by those who would promote hostility and tyranny? Is it not the threat of death? What is it that seems to bring the ultimate separation and alienation even between people who love each other? Is it not death?
And what is the enemy that Christ has overthrown by embracing him upon the Cross with His last breath? Is it not death? And is that victory not manifest in His glorious and shocking - even to His family and followers – resurrection and sojourn among them, not only as an invisible Presence, but as a concrete historical Person?
So what is so special about this day? It is this sense of hope, of joy, of the sort of triumph which ultimately makes every loser a winner. It is this conviction that all will finally come out right in the end – and that in fact what appears to be the end is truly no end, but a beginning. That life is continually only beginning for everyone - for the Tomb is empty.
This is Jesus’ ultimate gift and call to all His human brothers and sisters: the light shining from an empty Tomb. Because He lives – we live.
Let us then, brothers and sisters, live as people of life, hope, love and joy. How shall we live as such people? Together, with Him in our midst, holding on to each other – we shall find the way, day by day, moment by moment. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
