П’ятидесятниця. Зіслання Святого Духа.
«Прийди і вселися в нас.»
Нарешті діждалися ми П’ятидесятниці, Зіслання Святого Духа. Святиня прибрана зеленню відрозкішної природи, яку Бог знову розбудив після снігів та холоду зими.
Ми пригадуємо радість і красу Раю, нашого справжнього дому, якого Господь наново відкрив нам Своїм Стражданням, Воскресенням та Зісланням Святого Духа.
Ми також радіємо надією, що наші власні уми, серця та душі можуть стати такими ж живучими та світлими, як ця прекрасна земля, яка оновилася після холоду й морозу, що вони також можуть віддзеркалювати красу та спокій Раю.
Як сумно нам усвідомляти, що вони так часто віддзеркалюють метушню, гнів та турботу життя, яке не таке як воно мало б бути – звернене до Джерела всієї краси та радості, до Бога, так як соняшник завжди навертається до сонця. Натомість наше життя так часто зосереджуємо на сумніви, бажання та хотіння, та на спомин про кривди – дійсні та уявні – яких нам хтось то завдав. Ми повертаємось до цього отрутного сумішу знову й знову і так намагаємось оправдати болючі слова та діла, яких ми вимовляємо і чинимо, і так збільшуємо смуток і клопоти, яких наче б то і так надто багато у світі навколо нас.
Але П’ятидесятниця відновлює нашу надію на те, що так завжди не буде. Дорога до Раю відкрита нам. Ми знову і знову ступаємо на ту дорогу через молитву та участь у житті Церкви, цієї спільноти, яка справді зосереджується на Рай, суть якого – перебування в присутності Господа, Який, як ми проголошуємо у цій чудовій Молитві, на яку ми чекали літургічно від часу Пасхи, «всюди є і все наповняє».
Його Воскресення пронесло кінець смерті та гріху. Його Вознесіння принесло кінець відчуження між Богом і Його створінням. Його Зіслання Святого Духа приносить повноту життя – навіки.
Ми стаємо на коліна перед Ним сьогодні у спеціальних Молитвах у смиренній вдячності та прославленню. Стаємо коліна вперше від часу Пасхи, коли ми стояли перед Ним, як ті що до того часу лежали, як мертві у рабстві, яке нам завдали гріх та смерть. А зараз, як вільні люди, ми вільно стаємо на коліна і просимо: «Прийди і вселися в нас і очисти нас від усякої скверни і спаси, Милосердний, душі наші.» Амінь.

Pentecost. Descent of the Holy Spirit.
"Come and dwell within us.”
At last it has come once more – Pentecost, the Descent of the Holy Spirit. The Temple is resplendent with greenery from the luxuriant growth God has brought about after the ice and cold of winter.
We recall the joy and beauty of Paradise, our true Home which our Lord has again opened to us by His Passion, Resurrection and Sending of the Holy Spirit.
We also rejoice in the joyous hope that our own minds, hearts and souls can be as luxuriant and bright as this lovely earth renewed after the ice and cold, that they can reflect the beauty and peace of Paradise.
We are sadly aware of the fact that they so often reflect the confusion, anger and anxiety of a life that is not as it ought to be: turned towards the Source of all beauty and joy, God, as a sunflower turns always towards the Sun. Instead it is so often a life focused upon the doubts, the desires and lusts, and the recollection of wrongs – real and imagined – which have been done to us. We turn to this poisonous mixture over and over again and so seek to excuse the hurtful words and actions that we say and do, whereby we increase the sorrow and trouble that seem to abound in the world around us.
But Pentecost renews our hope: it need not, it shall not always be so. The way to Paradise has been opened to us. We enter it again and again through prayer and participation in the life of the Church, this community whose focus truly is Paradise, which is the Presence of the Lord, Who, as we proclaim in this wonderful prayer for which we have been waiting liturgically since the time of Pascha, “is everywhere present and fills all things”.
His Resurrection proclaimed the end of death and sin. His Ascension proclaimed the end of alienation from God and our fellow creatures. His Sending of the Spirit proclaims the fullness of life – forever.
We kneel before Him today in humble gratitude and adoration, going down upon our knees for the first time since Pascha, when we stood before Him as those who had until then lain prone in the slavery imposed by sin and death. Now, as free persons we freely go down upon our knees and implore: “Come and dwell within us and cleanse us of every stain and save our souls, o Merciful One”.
