Християни твердять рішуче та з глибоким переконанням, що це – Божий світ. Бог же – Творець усього, що є. Він – правдивий Володар і Цар вселенної і жодний суперник не може проти Нього конкурувати з довготривалим успіхом. Супостат, диявол (це ж значіння назви «Сатана»), робить що лише може, щоб супротивлятися Богові, але його зусилля завжди Богом передбачені. Вони і враховані у Божих планах та остаточно навіть добавляють звершеності Божої перемоги. (Ясно бачимо це в подіях навколо Христового розп’яття).
А все ж таки ми маємо зі всією серйозністю відноситися до кожного обману пущеного проти нас – чи походить він від Сатани та його когорти, чи від наших власних пристрастей, яких ми ще не опанували, чи від інших людей, які бувають часто настільки обманені, як не раз буваємо самі ми.
Ось чому, в сьогоднішньому Апостолі (Ефесян 6:10-17), Павло Тарсійський пригадує нам про те, як це важливо, щоб ми уповали на Господа, Який рівнож є нашим Приятелем, Провідником і незрівняним Учителем. Св. Павло пише: «[З]міцняйтеся Господом та могутністю сили Його! Зодягніться в повну Божу зброю, щоб могли ви стати проти хитрощів диявольських».
Павло був любителем спорту. Він любив дивитися на змагання борців. Він і вживає образи з цього спорту, щоб показати те, як Християни мусять змагатися, щоб опанувати свої пристрасті і реалізувати свій потенціал, як улюблені діти Бога. Павло пише: «Бо ми не маємо боротьби проти крові та тіла, але проти початків, проти влади, проти світоправителів цієї темряви, проти піднебесних духів злоби».
Часом буває, що ті, які проповідують на тему цієї цитати з Послання Св. Апостола Павла до Ефесян стають такі похмурі та суворі, що ми можемо помилитися та думати, що ми повинні боятися диявола і слуг його. Але це - повна помилка! Перемога Ісусова - остаточна і вирішальна! Він виконав усе, що потрібне для нашого спасіння. Але ми також мусимо робити все, що тільки можемо ми, щоб цей прецінний дар став також нашим власним даром. Ми мусимо проявляти зусилля, щоб його прийняти, його зберегти та його розвивати до повного його потенціалу.
Мабуть було б нам корисно уважати, що це змагання проти тих обманщиків – важлива й захоплююча пригода, яка вимагає наших найкращих зусиль та ресурсів, подібно як треба цього атлетам у їхньому тренуванні для спорту, в якому вони відзначаються.
Найбільш ефективна зброя проти Сатани мабуть і є та радість та упевнення, які походять від єднання з Богом, єднання, що включає усі дари, яких Він подав і далі подає нам, покликаючи нас жити у цьому прекрасному світі, що сяє Його славою та любов’ю. |
Christians affirm decisively, with profound conviction, that this is God’s world. God is the Maker of all that is. He is the true Lord and King of the universe and no competitor can challenge Him with any lasting success. The adversary, the devil (the name "Satan" means just that) does his best to oppose God, but his efforts are always foreseen by God. They are accounted for in God’s plan and actually end up by adding to God’s victory. (This can be clearly seen in the events leading up to and following Christ’s crucifixion).
We must nonetheless deal take seriously the deceptions that are launched at us, whether they come from Satan and his cohorts, or from our own passions which we have not yet mastered, or from other people, who are often prone to be as deceived as we often are.
This is why, in today’s Epistle (Ephesians 6:10-17), Paul of Tarsus reminds us how necessary it is to be relying upon our Lord, Who is also our Friend, our Guide and our peerless Teacher. St. Paul writes: "[B]e strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
Paul was a sports fan. He loved to watch wrestlers. He uses images from this sport to show that Christians must exercise effort to master their passions and realize their potential as beloved children of God. Paul writes: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Sometimes those who preach on this text from St. Paul’s Ketter to the Ephesians become so somber and stern that we may make the mistake of thinking that we have to be afraid of the devil and his minions. This is absolutely wrong! Jesus’ victory is final and conclusive! He has done all that is needed for our salvation. However, we must also do all that we can to make this precious gift truly our own. We must exercise effort to receive it, to preserve it and to develop it to its full potential.
It may be useful for us to consider this struggle against the deceivers as an important and exciting adventure which demands all of our best efforts and resources, just as is required of athletes as they train for the particular sport in which they excel.
The most efficient weapon against Satan may be the joy and certainty which come from union with God, a union which includes all the gifts that He gave and still gives us in calling us to live in this beautiful world which shines with His glory and His love. |
