На деяких Православних Календарях 25-го березня (це -12-го березня) ми поминаємо провідного Угодника Старозавітного Аарона, брата Пророка Мойсея Боговидця, разом з його онуком Праведним Фінеасом. Від Аарона походить лінія Старозавітних Священиків, що служили Господові, і Він є прообразом Господа, Бога і Спаса нашого Ісуса Христа, Того що подає Царське Священство усім охрещеним і Таїнственне Священство усім, яких для цього обрав Господь і Церква.
Служіння Аарона – славне. Це ж його вибрав Бог бути речником Мойсея перед Фараоном, коли сповнився час визволити народ Ізраїльський від століть поневолення в Єгипті. Його ж і помазав бути Первосвящеником.
Він та брат його Мойсея були дуже наближені один до одного. Рабини віднесли до них слова Псальма: «Милість та правда спіткаються, справедливість та мир поцілуються.» (Псалом 85:10). Мойсей представляє праведність, сповнення Закону згідно з Книгою Повторення Закону 33:21, а Аарон, як той що приносить жертви за народ, представляє мир згідно з Книгою Пророка Малахії 2:6.
Як буває зо всіма людьми, включно зі Святими, Аарон також, бувало, піддався спокусі. Коли його брат Мойсей зійшов га Гору Сінай, щоб дістати Десять Заповідей від Бога, і там затримався 40 днів, то Аарон піддався вимогам людей, що вважали, що Мойсей помер через близькість до святої Божої присутності. Він зробив золотого тельця для їхнього поклоніння, як видимого зображення Божества, що вивело їх з Єгипту. Наслідки були катастрофічні.
Мойсей заступився за народ Ізраїльський перед Богом, Який був висловив намір покинути їх і натомість зробити народ із нащадків Мойсея. Його молитви були вислухані але важка кара впала на ідолопоклонників. Аарон, який був піддався тискові через свою слабкість, спасся – також завдяки заступництва Мойсея. По цьому він служив Господові неухильно.
До нині нащадки Аарона продовжуються в євреях, що носять ім’я «Коген», що означає «священик». Інші нащадки племена Левія мають різні варіанти його імені.
Священство, яке подає Отець Небесний досконало і цілком сповнене і проявляється в нашому Господі Ісусі, бо ж Він приніс досконалу Жертву – Самого Себе – на Хресті і відкрив дорогу до Раю для всіх. Та наш Господь – не Священик за чином Аарона, будучи по тілу нащадком Царя Давида, з племені Юдиного а не Левія. Він радше вічний Священик за чином Мелхиседека, як пише Апостол Павло в Посланні до Євреїв.
Ця таємнича особа появляється в Книзі Буття 14:18-20, прийняти десятину від Авраама і подати йому хліб і вино. Згадується він знову Пасльмі 110:4, де говориться про вічне священство переможного Месії, нащадка Царя Давида. Це ж наш Єдиний Священик і Посередник між Богом і людьми, Господь Ісус, Що розділяє з нами Своє Життя в Св. Таїнстві Хліба й Вина, які є Його Тіло та Кров, Євхаристія.
Йдучи разом з нашим Господом через перемогу та страждання Його Страстей, будьмо вдячні за всіх тих, що приготували дорогу до Його переможних і вирішальних чинів, які назавжди відкрили доступ усім жадаючим справедливості і миру до Святого Святих, де можуть спілкуватися з Всемогучим. Амінь. |
“Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed [each other]” (Psalm 85:10)
On some Orthodox Calendars March 25 (which is March 12 on the Julian Calendar) is the day we commemorate a prominent Old Testament Saint, Aaron, the brother of Moses the Prophet and God-seer. Aaron, together with his grandson, the Righteous Phineas. From him comes the line of Old Testament Priests who served the Lord, and he is a prototype of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ, the One Who confers the Royal Priesthood upon all the baptized, and the Sacramental Priesthood upon those so chosen by God and the Church.
The ministry of Aaron is a glorious one. It was he who was chosen by God to be Moses’ mouthpiece in speaking to the Pharaoh when the fullness of time came for the people of Israel to be delivered from centuries of slavery in Egypt. It was also he who was anointed to be the High Priest.
He and his brother Moses were very close to each other. Rabbis have applied these words of the Psalm to them: “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed (each other)” (Psalm 85:10). Moses represents righteousness, the fulfillment of the Law according to Deuteronomy 33:21, while Aaron, the one who offers sacrifices for the people, represents peace according to Malachi 2:6.
As is the case with all humans, including the Saints, Aaron also sometimes succumbed to temptation. When his brother, Moses, ascended Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God, and stayed there for 40 days, Aaron gave way to the demands of the people who thought that Moses had died from being so near to the holy presence of God. He made a golden calf for them to worship, as a visible representation of the Divinity which had led them out of Egypt. The results were disastrous.
Moses interceded for the people of Israel before God, Who expressed an intention to abandon them and instead make a nation out of Moses’ descendants. His prayers prevailed, but a severe punishment was visited upon the idolaters. Aaron, who had given way to the pressure out of weakness, was spared, also by Moses’ intercession. He continued to serve the Lord unswervingly thereafter.
To this day the descendants of Aaron live on in Jews who bear the surname of “Cohen”, which means “priest”. Other descendants of the tribe of Levi bear various versions of that name.
The Priesthood conferred by the Heavenly Father is perfectly and completely fulfilled and manifest in our Lord Jesus, since He brought a perfect Sacrifice, His own Person, upon the Cross, and opened the way to Paradise for everyone. Our Lord, however, is not a Priest of the order of Aaron, being a descendant of King David, of the tribe of Judah and not of Levi, according to the flesh. Rather, He is a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, as St. Paul writes in his Letter to the Hebrews.
This mysterious figure appears in the Book of Genesis 14:18-20, to receive tithes from Abraham and to give him bread and wine, and is mentioned again in Psalm 110:4 referring to the eternal priesthood of the victorious Messiah, the descendant of David the King. It is our one Priest and Mediator between God and humans, our Lord Jesus, Who shares His life with us in the Holy Mystery of the Bread and Wine which are His Body and Blood, the Eucharist.
As we march on with our Lord through the triumph and the pain of His Passion, let us be grateful for all those who prepared the way for His victorious and decisive acts which have forever made it possible for all who desire righteousness and love mercy to enter into the Holy Place and find Communion with the Almighty.
