І знову круг літургійного року привів нас до Вербної Неділі, до В’їзду Господнього в славі в Єрусалим. І ми святимо гілки верби замість ножі чи карабіни – і дякуємо Господові, що дав нам ці дари природи, не зважаючи на ранню пору року. Ми їх принесемо до своїх домів а також прикрасимо ними могили наших улюблених, як пригадку про Господню любов та перемогу над останнім ворогом, смертю.

Господь в’їжджає смиренно на осляті, виявляючи, що Царство, яке Він приносить не з цього світу, який шанує силу людей насильних і наполегливої волі. Це – Царство, яке колись виявиться повністю в цьому світі, коли сповняться слова, яких Він навчив нас молитися: «Нехай прийде Царство Твоє, нехай буде воля Твоя, як на Небі, так і на землі». Це буде світ, де Його слова «Блаженні миротворці» вже більше не будуть промовляти, бо ж вже ніколт більш не буде ні змагання ні війни.

Цей світ уже прийшов у силі з Господньою остаточною перемогою на Хресті, яку здобув при волосному вигуку: «Звершилось!» коли Він передав Свій дух Отцеві не покинувши при цьому Свого тіла. Ми вже знаємо цей спокій беручи участь у Божественній Літургії. Він уже знаходиться в нашому серці. Та є ще й інші справи, які змагаються з цією перемогою, яка рівнозначна з блаженним спокоєм і наші серця далі є полем битви.

Сьогодні коли приймаємо благословенні гілки посвятімо себе знову явній перемозі Господа! Будьмо ж тими блаженним ним миротворцями, рішаючи в своєму серці співпрацювати з Господом, перемагаючи кожну нищівну пристрасть, кожну думку злоби, помсти, страху, турботи і тому подібне. Рішімось підібрати сильну зброю молитви і смирення, яких показав Він нам – та яких нам і дав, щоб ми ними користалися. Церква воююча, наші брати й сестри в Христі по всьому світі, змагається разом з нами. Церква торжествуюча, наші брати й сестри, котрі вже здобули перемогу та перейшли з цієї землі, за нас затупається в молитві та в радості з приводу наших подвигів, заохочуючи нас та свідкуючи про нашу хоробрість та віру.

І так разом Церква воююча і Церква торжествуюча викликуємо: «Благословен, Хто йде в Ім’я Господнє». Амінь.

Once again the cycle of the Liturgical Year has brought us to Palm Sunday, the Entry of our Lord in glory into Jerusalem. And we are blessing willows rather than guns or swords – with gratitude to the Lord Who has again given us these gifts of nature, notwithstanding the early date this year. We shall take them to our homes and also decorate the graves of our loved ones with them as a reminder of the Lord’s love and victory over the last enemy, death.

The Lord comes riding in humbly on a donkey, showing that the Kingdom He brings is not of this world which honours the force and power sought by men of violence and indomitable will. It is a Kingdom of this world as it shall be when the words He taught us to pray are fully realized: “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as in heaven”. It will be a world where His words “Blessed are the peacemakers” will no longer be heard for there will no longer be any strife or war to overcome.

This world has already come in power with the Lord’s final victory upon the Cross which He achieved with the mighty cry: “It is accomplished” as He submitted His soul to God without abandoning His body. We already know this peace as we participate in His victory by celebrating the Divine Liturgy. We already have it in our hearts. But there are still other matters contending with this victory which is the same as blessed peace and our hearts are still the battleground.

Today as we receive the blessed willows let us once more dedicate ourselves to the manifest victory of the Lord. Let us be the blessed peacemakers by determining in our hearts to work with the Lord by overcoming every negative passion, every thought of malice, vengeance, fear, anxiety and the like. Let us resolve to take up the mighty weapons of prayer and humility which He has shown us – and given to us. We are never alone in this struggle. The Church militant, our brothers and sisters in Christ upon earth struggles along with us. The Church triumphant, our brothers and sisters who have gained victory and have already left this earth, stands in intercession and joy to encourage us and witness our courage and faith.

All together, Church militant and Church triumphant, we cry: “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord”. Amen.
